Cocktails + fresh fish in Miami Beach

On our 13th wedding anniversary weekend, we found ourselves in Miami Beach craving great seafood in a more local, casual atmosphere. You know the kind of place – the one where shorts and a makeup-less face wouldn’t raise eyebrows. One of my travel industry colleagues suggested Stiltsville Fish Bar located in the heart of the Sunset Harbor neighborhood. It’s only fitting that once we arrived, we ordered a round of drinks with me opting for the Sunset Harbor cocktail and David choosing the Walking on Stilts. The drinks were deliciously strong, so we quickly decided to fill our stomachs with a few small plates.

I quickly discovered why Stiltsville was one of the six South Florida semifinalists for the James Beard Award. The green eggs and ham (green deviled eggs with crunchy, country ham and pickles) did not disappoint with an impressive level of creaminess. The kataifi-wrapped coconut shrimp and fish wings were ultra-fresh and bursting with flavor. The presentation impressed, and our taste buds were delighted by every dish.

We had a great evening of amazing food and top-notch service from our waiter, Nicholas, so it was an easy decision to book a table at Stiltsville again for the next night of our trip. Pro tip: Sometimes when a restaurant is this good, there’s no reason to try somewhere else. So on your next adventure to Miami Beach, leave the fishing to the pros and head over to Stiltsville Fish Bar.

A daytime stroll in milan

I recently spent a day wandering the streets of Milan, Italy, soaking in a few sites and savoring delectable Italian food. Strolling along Via Montenapoleone – one of Europe’s most expensive streets –  I slipped into the Zegna menswear boutique to find a special gift for David, which was easy to do with the multiple floors overflowing with the newest trends. I spent a bit more time window shopping past favorites like Gucci and Bottega Veneta, and after rain shortened my stroll, I discovered the Pasticceria Cova. I was delighted with my tea and sampling of scrumptious sweet treats.

With the rain ending, I continued my walk through the Brera art district lined with small artisan workshops and quaint stores. For any visitors to this eclectic area, I’d recommend a full day to explore this neighborhood alone. But onward I went, passing the Teatro Alla Scala – one of the most famous opera houses in the world – then through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and on to the Piazza del Duomo, which boasts the breathtaking Duomo di Milano. As one of the largest Catholic churches in the world, this grand cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. It’s also home to more statues than any other building in the world (3,400 statues, 135 gargoyles and 700 figures to be exact).

My day in Milan ended with a fabulous meal overlooking the cathedral with my friend Antonella. We feasted on tasty salad, delectable pasta and of course, plenty of wine. Note to self, allow more time to wander and explore on my next trip to Milan.

Ciao!
